The Pannarai Hotel
A four-star on Sampanthamit Street, five minutes on foot from CentralPlaza and the Udon Thani bus terminal
About this hotel
The Pannarai Hotel is on Sampanthamit Street, in the commercial grid of central Udon Thani, and its address does most of the work. CentralPlaza Udon Thani and the Udon Thani bus terminal, where long-distance coaches to Bangkok leave from, are both about five minutes away on foot, which suits anyone travelling around Isan by bus or arriving late from the airport. Rooms come in double, twin and suite layouts, each with a private balcony, air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and a fridge. The outdoor pool has sun loungers and umbrellas, and there is also a gym and a bar. The Pannawadee Restaurant serves Thai and European dishes from breakfast to dinner. In the dry months, the hotel works as a base for the Red Lotus Sea at Kumphawapi, about 40 km away, which blooms from November to February.

- Balcony rooms with air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and a fridge
- The Pannawadee Restaurant for Thai and European dishes
- Gym and bar on site
- About 40 km from the Red Lotus Sea at Kumphawapi
Our take
The Pannarai Hotel is a five-minute walk from both CentralPlaza Udon Thani and the bus terminal, and that pairing is why I would book it: you can step off an overnight coach from Bangkok, drop your bags and be in the mall's food court without a taxi. Its 8.4 score across 1,444 reviews fits a practical four-star with balcony rooms and an outdoor pool for the afternoon heat. I would choose it for a short Udon Thani stop or an early start to the Red Lotus Sea. I would not choose it for a quiet stay: the hotel sits in a busy shopping district, and light sleepers should ask for a room away from the street.
- Visit the Red Lotus Sea at Kumphawapi, about 40 km away, between November and February, and leave early: the flowers are best from around 06:00 to 11:00, before they close in the sun.
- The long-distance bus terminal is a five-minute walk away, so this is one of the easiest addresses in Udon Thani if you are continuing by coach to Bangkok.
- Use the outdoor pool in the late afternoon, when Udon Thani's heat peaks in March and April and the city offers little shade on foot.
- Ask for a room on a higher floor or away from Sampanthamit Street if you are a light sleeper, since the shopping district stays busy into the evening.
Why we love it
- Walking distance to both the mall and the bus terminal
- An outdoor pool for the hottest part of the day
- A private balcony in every room
- An easy early start for the Red Lotus Sea in season
Why guests love itFor a family passing through Udon Thani, I would book The Pannarai Hotel for convenience rather than for resort facilities. The outdoor pool, with loungers and umbrellas, gives children a swim after a long bus ride, and CentralPlaza is five minutes away on foot for food, shopping and air conditioning on rainy afternoons. Balcony rooms with a fridge help with snacks and drinks. No children's pool or kids' club is listed, so treat it as a city base, not a holiday hotel. For a day out, the Red Lotus Sea, 40 km away, makes a good boat trip with children, but only from November to February.
