Classic Kameo Hotel & Serviced Apartments, Ayutthaya
Studio and one-bedroom suites with kitchenettes on Rojana Road, 2 km east of Ayutthaya's centre, with a sauna and steam room
About this hotel
Classic Kameo Hotel & Serviced Apartments sits at 148 Moo 5 Rojana Road, the main road into Ayutthaya from the east, about 2 km from the centre and outside the river island that holds most of the ruins. Its 253 units range from deluxe rooms to studio suites and one-bedroom suites; the studios and suites have kitchenettes with a fridge and a microwave, a seating area, air conditioning and a flat-screen TV. The wellness side is the reason to choose it: an outdoor pool with loungers, a sauna, a steam room and a fitness centre. Ayutthaya railway station is on the same east bank of the Pa Sak, so arriving by train from Bangkok does not involve crossing the island. Wat Yai Chai Mongkol is a five-minute drive, and Central Ayutthaya is a short drive away.

Our take
Classic Kameo pairs kitchenette suites with a sauna and a steam room on Rojana Road, which makes it the base I would pick for several nights in Ayutthaya rather than a single stopover. In a studio or a suite you can make a simple breakfast before a dawn start, then come back to the pool and the sauna after a hot morning in the ruins, away from the backpacker lanes. The 8.5 score across 252 reviews fits a modern, practical hotel built for longer stays. The catch is the address: the historic island is about 2 km away, so every visit to Wat Mahathat or Wat Phra Si Sanphet means a tuk-tuk, a Grab or a hired bicycle. I would skip it if you want to walk to the temples at dawn.
- Hire a tuk-tuk for half a day from the hotel rather than walking: the main ruins on the river island are about 2 km away, and the sites are spread over several kilometres.
- Visit Wat Yai Chai Mongkol, a five-minute drive away, first thing in the morning before the heat builds, then continue to the temples on the island.
- If you come by train from Bangkok, Ayutthaya station is on the same east bank of the Pa Sak as the hotel, so you reach Rojana Road without crossing the island; for a day in the ruins, the passenger ferry about 200 m from the station crosses to the island in around five minutes.
- Book a studio or a suite if you want the kitchenette for breakfast on early starts: fruit and supplies from Central Ayutthaya, a short drive from the hotel, cover a dawn departure.
Why we love it
- A kitchenette in the studios and suites for early starts at the ruins
- A sauna and a steam room after a hot day of temples
- An outdoor pool and a gym on site
- Wat Yai Chai Mongkol five minutes away by car
Why guests love itFor a family spending a few days in Ayutthaya, I would book a one-bedroom suite here for the space. The separate bedroom and the kitchenette let parents keep milk in the fridge and let children nap while the adults stay up. The outdoor pool is a real reward after a morning walking around brick ruins in the heat, but I could not confirm a separate children's pool, so plan on watching young swimmers in the main pool. The drawback for families is distance: the historic island is about 2 km away, so plan on a tuk-tuk or a Grab for every outing. Central Ayutthaya, a short drive away, is useful for rainy afternoons and supplies.
